TRADE WITH CANADA.
GOVERNMENT'S NEGOTIATIONS
IMPORTANCE FULLY RECOGNISED,
Trade with Canada formed the subject o fa letter recently sent to the Prime Minister by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce. At this mornings meeting of the chamber the following reply from the Prime Minister was received: — "I have to acknowledge receipt of your letter regarding the negotiations are at present taking place with the Canadian Government with a view to a trade agreement being concluded between that Dominion and New Zealand. It is regrette dthat it is impossible for me just now to inform your council as to the progress made in the negotiations. It is, however, not considered that any useful purpose would be served if a Cabinet Minister were to go to Canada in connection with the matter at the present time. . "The importance of the matter is tully recognised, and your chamber can rest assured that every possible step is being taken by the GoVernment to bring the negotiations to a speedy and satisfactory conclusion." The Chairman (Mr. A. M. Seaman): We are receiving correspondence from the Canadian end. Members were of the opinion that the matter should not be lost sight of.
