NO EXTENSION.
HIRE PURCHASE AGREEMENTS MORTGAGORS' BELIEF BILL. PRIME MINISTER'S DECISION. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Monday. The.Government has decided not to extend the provisions of the Mortgagors* Relief Bill to hire purchase agreements. In making the announcement in the House this afternoon, the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forhes, stated that the extension would mean the disturbance of a great deal of business and many trade agreements, and he did not think it would he wise to do, that. The question of - hire purchase agreements could, perhaps, be considered during the normal session of Parliament. The measure before the House had been designed to, afford relief to farmers who found difficulty in meeting their interest payments;, and in promoting such legislation, the greatest care had to be exercised to prevent the measure from creating greater hardship than it sought to remedy. In a difficult time the less ordinary business arrangements were disturbed the "better. Mr. Forbes repeated that in his opinion it would be unwise to enlarge the legislation, to cover hire purchase agreements at, the present time.
