SCHEME FIVE.

CESSATION FOB FORTNIGHT. DECISION CANNOT BE ALTERED. In reply to a telegram sent to* the Minister of Labour by the Mayor of Mount Eden, Mr. E. H. Potter, asking that steps should be taken for scheme No. 5 workers to be' employed during the present fortnight, the Minister announces that the decision to stop the work for two weeks could not be altered. Mr. Potter said to-day that it was a pity that work could not be found for the men, who, in many cases, might have to look to the Hospital Board for help. The suggestion made to the Minister was that the men should be kept going, the Government to reimburse the local bodies at a later period. When the matter was referred to Mr. G. Finn, a member of the Unemployment Board, he said that it was impossible to'make any exceptions.
