THE SACRIFICES OF THE CLERGY.
I wish to inform "Real Anglican" that he is quite mistaken in suggesting that mj knowledge of the Church is limited to its exterior, for I have had a lifelong experience ~ of the Anglican Church both in New Zealand and the Old Country. Were my knowledge, as he suggests, only from the outside, then I should have to admit that it would be very limited, for the average man knows nothing of the Church, for the simple reason that it has little of the outeide to boast of in spite of our Lord's command: "Go ye into the highways and hedges and compel them to come in." "Real Anglican" says that it is notorious that Anglican clergymen are scandalously underpaid. He displays gross ignorance of the true facts, for, on investigation, I think he will find that the minimum salary for vicars is not less than £300 per annum, exclusive of marriage and burial fees, and with additional benefits of a free house, coal, lighting, telephone, etc., one has to admit that he is very comfortably off. There are, of course, exceptions to every rule. As to the position of Ministers of other denominations, this discussion does not apply. ANGLICAN.
