NEED FOR OPTIMISM.
The Right. Hon. Lord Leigh, chairman of directors, when addressing the annual meeting of shareholders in the Triumph Cycle Co., of Coventry, made the following remarks, which may fittingly be quoted in view of the near approach of "Good Cheer Week" in Auckland: "So long as national expenditure increased, and so long as taxation increased to keep in line with the ever-growing burdens of the nation, taxation must "eventually reach a point where it would break the back of the most powerful undertaking. Still, it was not by lamenting their fate that they could give their contribution to a better and more wholesome spirit. Let them lift their eyes to the sun, even though the sun appeared to be behind the clouds. Depression of mind caused by depression of trade had a snowball effect, and still further depressed trade. It was for them, by expressions of hope and confidence, to contribute their share to the feeling of security, a feeling which would hasten the long-awaited improvement of -trade.
