CONCERN EXPRESSED.

EXPLANATION REQUESTED. Concern was expressed at the last meeting of the Associated Chambers of Commerce at the continuance of the coAstriiction of the' South Island main trunk railway. The secretary was instructed to write to the Prime Minister,«the Hon. G. W. Forbes, asking that, in view of the almoßt- universal condemnation of the completion of the line, and the findings of the Fay-Casey Commission, a statement be forwarded to the associated chambers setting forth the reasons for continuing the line. It was also decided to ask for an explanation as to how the additional heavy expenditure could be justified.
