MELANESIAN MISSION.
SOUTHERN' CROSS LEAVES.
The Melanesian Mission steamer Southern Cross sailed at noon to-day for the New Hebrides and the Solomon Islands. Travelling on the steamer were the Bishop of Melanesia (the Rt. Rev. F. M. Molyneux), the Rev. and Mrs. A. E. Teall, Mrs. Sprott, Sister Dawes, Sister Guylee, the Rev. H. J. Nind, the Rev. R. C. Rudgard, the Rev. R. de Voil, Mr. D. L. Francis, Mr. H. F. Sutton, and Mr. R. Clarke.
An impressive dismissal service was held at St. Mary's Cathedral this morning. Archbishop Averill, who conducted the service, said the dismissal prayers over Sister Dawes, the Rev. R. de Voil, and Mr. Sutton, who are going to the mission field for the first time. Sister Dawes was until recently on the nursing staff of the Franklin Memorial Hospital at Waiuku, Mr. de Voil comes from England, and Mr. Sutton was formerly on the teaching staff of the Hereworth bovs' school at Havelock North.
