"SOME UNKNOWN REASON."

LABOURER DAMAGES SHRUB

"For some unknown reason, while_ on his way to the doss house last evening, this man deliberately damaged a shrub," said Detective-Sergeant Kelly, concerning Herbert Gordon Lewis (27), a labourer, who came before the Police Court this morning on a charge of committing mischief by wilfully damaging a shrub valued at 15/.

Mr. Schramm, who appeared for accused, said the only explanation was that another man took him into a hotel and shouted for him and that afterwards Lewis lost his head. He was now sorry for what he had done.

Lewis was convicted and ordered to pay for the damage done, plus £2 2/G costs, in default seven days' imprisonment.
