SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES.
Arrangements have been made f w the payment of fares to and from of men employed under scheme five K v two of the Auckland local bodies the Manukau County Council and the Wait mata County Council. This intimation was officially received this niornin* Recently both the county council which have men employed in country districts under scheme five, were notitv«i that the fares of the men could not l paid to their job, and the men werr placed in the position of having to find their own way to and from the jobs The communication from the Un'em ployment Commissioner states: "Tlithe Unemployment Board has agreed, ithe special circumstances, to approve V councils' action in the matter, providinthese transport charges (9d per day fj two-dav men; 8d per day for three-day-men and 7id per day for four-day men' are not increased beyond the present rates for any other works within 'the county on which unemployed may be engaged. The board also agreed" to allow these arrangements to continue as long as No. 5 scheme is carried on under the present rules.
"The action of the officer-in-chargc of the Labour Department, Auckland, in withholding certification of the voucher* has been in accordance with, and Indirection of, the Unemployment Board, and authority has now been granted to him to certify and pass the vouchers for payment."
