AEROPLANE TRAGEDY.
INQUEST IN HAWKE'S BAY
CAUSE OF MISHAP NOT KNOWN
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.4 WAIROA, Wednesday. The inquest was concluded to-day concerning the deaths of Mr.-Ivan L. Ivight, of Danne\:.:.e. Mr. Walter Findlav, of Gisboriie. and Mr. W. C. Strand, of Lower Hutt, who were killed when an aeroplane piloted by Mr. Kight crashed at Wairoa 011 February 5. After further evidence had been taken a verdict was returned that the deceased were killed as a result of a monoplane crashing, but that there was no evidence to show the cause of the mishap.
The monoplane in which the three 111311 lost their lives was flying from Gisbovue to Hastings with telegrams and letters, shortly after the earthquake. The machine dropped a bag containing telegrams at Wairoa. It then circled the field and was rising, but stalled and nose-dived. It crashed a-t terrific speed into the railway yards, and the nose was buried deep in the ground. '.lon worked frantically to extricate the occunants, and they had to break a portion of the right wing to got to them. However, th? victims were p;ut relief. Two had been killed outright and the third died within a few minutes.
