CYCLING.

AUCKLAND CLUB'S EVENT.

The Auckland Cycle Club held a one and a half miles handicap last evening at the Western Springs Stadium. There were 15 starters. J. Whitten, the scratch rider, rode a great race, his time of 3m S 2-5s being an unofficial record. The result was as follows: — J. Whitten, scr, 1; W. Mathieson. 100 yds, 2 ; K. J. Mathieson, 70yds, 3 ; L. G. Pinfold, 45yds, 4. Time, 3m S 2-ss.

The front and middle-markers bunched early and with the pace slow this gave the back men their chance. Pinfold and K. Mathieson shot to the front down the back straight in the last lap, closely followed by the winner, who went to the front entering the straight and won by two lengths. W. Mathieson finished well to get second, a length ahead of the third man.
