REUNION OF PASSENGERS.

ANNIVERSARY OF ARRIVAL

A reunion of the surviving passengers of the ship Brodick Castle, which arrived in Auckland from London on March 23. IS7O, was held at the Farmers' Trading Company to-day. the 54th anniversary of the arrival of the •ship. Mr. W. Richardson, of Papakura, who was the ship's baker on the voyage, presided. The ship carried 300 passengers, and several of them are still living, the majority in Auckland. As she entered the harbour, the shi-i was carried stern first,on to the reef'at Bean Rock and her passengers were landed in boats after the vessel had been floated off .at high tide. The voyage was a very adventurous one. At Gravesend the ship broke her anchor cable and drifted against a pier. Crossing the Bay of Biscay she ran into a severe storm, arid her three masts went overboard and one sailor was killed. The crew of Dutchmen behaved sullenly and had to be forced, at the point bf a revolver, to clear away the wreckage.

The ship drifted about for L 5 days in a helpless condition, but was eventually sighted bv the collier ( levcland and towed back to Plymouth'.
