HAMILTON. A new series of matches In the senior A grade section of the Waikato Cricket Association's competitions was commenced on Saturday. Old Boys scored 160 against Hamilton East, who lost four wickets for 81 runs. Aitken, 58, D. Hawke, 54, were the best batsmen for Old Boy 3. Frankton made 79 runs in their first Innings, and 13 for two wickets in their second innings, against Hamilton, whose first innings realised 75. ROTORUA. The Hamilton High School cricket team visited Rotorua for the annual match against the Botorua High School. Rotorua won the toss and batted, making 227 (Matthews 80 not out, Hampson 40, Byder 20, Beale 17, Dowllng 14). Bowling for the visitors, Hubbard took three wickets for 54 runs (West three for 45, Kent three for 32). Hamilton made 238 for six wickets (Tresham 76 not out, Thompson 42, Wallis 30 Avery 35, Ellis 19 not out). Bowling for Rotorua, Matthews took three wickets for 26 runs, Brooker one for 20, Hampson one for 36, Ryder one for 68. THAMES. The annual fixture between the winning clubs of Hauraki Plains and Thames for the Crawford-Watson Cup took place at Thames on Saturday, when Waitakaruru met Karaka, the latter retaining the cup by 137 runs. Karaka won the toss and went to the wickets, and were disposed of for 218, the highest scores being made by Smith, 54, G. Buchan, 51, Brokcnshire, 37, retired. Stretton and McGonaghy shared the bowling honours. Waitakaruru followed on and scored 81, of which Stretton scored 39. Karaka's best bowlers were R. Buchan, G. Buchan and Brokenshire. WHANGAREI. Nomads have won the Whangarei cricket championship. On Saturday they could do no more than draw against Maungakaramea The latter team made 189 (Attwood 25 Sloane 42, Bercich 21, Hudson 34). In the 80 minutes remaining, Nomads made 105 for five (Dunn 25, Foote 25 not out, Menzies 23 not out). The two runners-up suffered defeat. Kaipaki and Otorohanga teams met at Te Awamutu on Saturday in the Waipa competitions. Kaipaki scored 157 (11. Goixlwin 39, C. Tarr 37, J. Tarr 20, T. McCarthy 14, and K. Catchpole 13). Otorohanga replied with 66 (A. Arnold 20, and L. Arnold 10).
