STONEWALL.
MAY LAST FOUR DAYS. FINANCE BILL BATTLE. GOVERNMENT PREPARED. LABOUR MEMBERS' INTENTIONS (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The real fight on the Finance Bill will begin in the House this- afternoon, when the Prime Minister will ask that urgency be accorded the committee stage of the measure. The Government forces are well prepared to meet a stonewall, and they have been divided into sections to assure that there will be a quorum in the chamber at any hour. It is freely stated in the lobbies by Labour members that they will hold up the hill to the full extent of the Standing Orders, and as long as physical endurance will permit. Anticipations are that the House will sit continuously for at; last four days, and it is possible that the stonewall will last until midnight on Saturday, if Mr. G. C. Black, (Ind.. Motueka), Mr. J. S. Fletcher (Ind., Grey Lynn) and Mr. H. M. iiusiiworth (Country, Bay of Islands) are prepared to work'in close co-operation with the Labour group. A caucus of the United party was held this afternoon to finalise plar.s for the passage of the bill.
