INTERESTING COMPETITION

RESULT ANNOUNCED.

Held at the Auckland Horticu tural Society's Dahlia Show, the competition in which entrants were required to name the 12 best dahlias proved most interesting and close on 200 cards were entered, so that the work of finding the winner was an arduous task for the committee which dealt with it.

As a result of the voting, the red decorative dahlia, Flaming Meteor, was first in order of popularity, receiving J~<*>tes. The darker red dahlia, Mabel Lawlence, was second with 99 votes, and it. was followed bv the Mrs. A. B..Seal TOrietv, 79 votes, Mrs. Brown Clayton (locallV grown seedling) 76, Jane Cowl, 75, Tre'ntandin 74, Frau Bacht (the champion bloom at the show) 71, Grace Curling 69, Regal 60, Salbach's White .»», Elinor van de Veer 58, and Jersey Beauty and W. D. Cartwright 57 votes each.

The winner of the competition was Mr. A. Crombie, Mount Eden, who was the onlv one to name 10 of these varieties, but no less than eight competitors named nine. In the opinion of the judges Miss M. Goodman and Mr. P. Jones placed the selected varieties nearest ui order of merit, so that the second and third prizes will be divided between them.
