Companionate Union Denounced By Bishop of London. TEACHING FROM AMERICA. LONDON, February 23. The Bishop of London, Dr. A. F. Winnington Ingram, in the course of a sermon in the Chapel Royal, St. James', uttered an outspoken condemnation of companionate marriages and "weekending 1 ' by young uniharried couples. The preacher said that recently he had exf)6riericed very 1 great difficulty in persuading a youlig. niarfied wOniaii who had gone away with a nian other thin her husband for a day or two that it was adultery. She said: "What a funny thing to call it." He had replied: "That is what the Bible calls it." "With this insidious teaching creeping from America," continued the bishop, "we have to look carefully to see what is the teaching of our Lord. I find that many people make a great deal of the Lord's kindness to the woman who was taken in adultery. Of course Ho was kind, but we must not forget the rest of the Christian religion. "The body is a beautiful servant but a terrible master. Christians must watch every cinema and play to. see that they do not bring temptations to the minds of the young."
