WORKERS' COMPLAINT.
DELAY IN WAGE PAYMENT
BOARD CHAIRMAN EXPLAINS,
A complaint made by a deputation representing the men employed under scheme 5 by the Auckland Transport Board on the Ponsonby Road tramline, was referred this morning to the chairman of the Auckland Transport Board, Mr. J. A. C. Allum. The deputation said that by midday on Saturday they had done 30 hours'"work for the portion of the week they were employed, but they were not paid, with a result that hardship was caused to their wives and children. Mr. AHum said that under the scheme by which the men were employed the Government would not allow the board to make payment until the money was due. and it was nc-t due until two more hours were worked this morning. Then the men were immediately .paid. The Transport Board did not make the conditions, and would have preferred to work the- men by a weekly arrangement. All the work had to be carried out according to the Government scheme. Most of the men under the scheme were employed at Remuera. and they were quite satisfied when the matter was explained to them.
