v . OTAHUHU DEFEATS CARLTON,

Tie final of the first Rotorua bowling tournament was played this afternoon. The weather was fine at the start, but after the fifteenth head heavy rain set in, making the conditions very unpleasant. The teams were: Otahuhu (Carson, Harper, Sykes, Gardiner), Carlton (Frost, Tonkin, Lamb, Ritchie). On the first head Tonkin drew shot, but Sykes rested him out, Ritchie drawing him off: Carlton 1, Otahuhu 0. The second head again saw Ritchie rest the shot bowl out: Carlton 2, Otahuhu 0. The third head saw Carson and Sykes draw shots, but Lamb ran one off, and Sykes drew another. Ritchie took out both shots, and Gardiner drew shot: Carlton 2, Otahuhu 1. On the fourth head Harper drew two beauties, but Tonkin played one right on kitty. Sykes burnt the head. On the replay. Gardiner trailed kitty, but lost the head: Carlton 3, Otahuhu 1. When the skips went up at the fifth' end, the shot was in doubt, but Carlton Secured the measure: Carlton 4, Otahuhu 1. At the sixth Frost rested, within six inches of kitty, but Sykes drew, the shot round him. Tonkin rested him off and the skips did not alter the head: Carlton 5, Otahuhu 1; At the seventh Frost drew Bhot, but Harper moved kitty for 2, and drew another. Ritchie drove kitty back, only to be 1 down.. Gardiner got a trail for 2. Carlton 5, Otahuhu 3. On the eighth head Lamb drew two ..shots. Gardiner, however, drew a toucher on the head: Carlton 5, Otahuhu 4. On the ninth the leads were well over the head, and it was left to Harper to draw shot, at which Ritchie had two drives, but failed to alter the position: Carlton 5, Otahuhu 5. " At the tenth, Otahuhu.for the.first time took the lead, laying 2 when the skips went down, and Gardiner drew two more, the head going to Otahuhu for 4: Otahuhu 9, Carlton 5. When the eleventh head was played, "the "wind liad increased to nali a gale. Lamb drew a toucher. Gardiner trailed kitty too far, and Carlton took 2: Otahuhu 9, Carlton 7. The twelfth head saw Sykes take out 2 with his first, and drew shot with his second, but Ritchie burni the head. On the replay Frost and Lamb drew shots, but Gardiner trailed kitty for 1: Otahuhu 10, Carlton 7. The thirteenth saw Carlton lying 3, but Sykes rested in the shot down: Otahuhu 11,-Carl-ton 7 At the fourteenth Otahuhu got 3 on the head, but Lamb drove kitty back yet Otahuhu still laid 2. Ritchie rested the shot bowl for 1: Otahuhu 11, Carlton s ' The fifteenth head was killed by Ritchie •when he was two down, and on replay lie drew shot: Otahuhu 11, Carlton 9. The sixteenth was fatal for Car ton, the team facing the-heavy'wind and ram. Sykes drew 2 and. Gardiner 2 more, ; making the gcore: Otahuhu 15, Carlton 9. On the seventeenth Otahuhu laid 2, but Tonkin drove jack into the ditch and _ laid shot. Sykes drew a good second: Otahuhu 15, Carlton 10. The eighteenth head saw Otahuhu increase their lead by 3: Otahuhu 18, Carlton 10. The nineteenth went to Ritchie ior 1, and the game finished on the twentieth, where Harper drew 2 on the head, Ritchie failing, to drive him off. The final score was: Otahuhu 20, Carlton 11 At the conclusion -the president presented the trophies to the competing teams..
