LAUNCESTON, this day,

The dredge Nereus capsized and sank in Bass Strait and tne master, Captain Fitzgerald, and the mate, Harold Scarborough, were drowned. The tug St. Olaves, which was towing the Nereus, rescued the remainder of the crew. The disaster occurred with startling suddenness, the dredge foundering within 20 seconds five minutes after springing a leak.
