THE WATERFRONT ROAD.
There have been various names put forward 1 for the new waterfront road. Some of them 1 are not bad, others are fantastic, but none of them can be termed "just the thing." Some-' how I think that the right name has been suggested to us by the terrible catastrophe that has occurred at Napier. What is wrong in naming our splendid waterfront road "Th® Marine Parade," in perpetuation of the Marine Parade which was the pride of Napier? Of course I am quite aware that there are several Marine Parades in and around the city, but while they are just local the Marine Parade along the waterfront is the marine parade for the whole city and one which would be used and admired by overseas visitors. lam an Aucklander, but I think it would be a wee compliment to our .dear friends of Napier who have had such a terrible experience, and, incidentally, it would be a memorial for all-time of that greatest of all calamities that has ever befallen our beloved country, New Zea*. land. I trust that: our Mayor and councillors will think of this when finally giving a name to this fine marine thoroughfare. MOUNT EDEN. .
