WAIROA STOCK.
CONSIGNMENT TO GISBORNE. ROAD TO SOUTH BLOCKED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.), GISBORNE, this day. Consequent on the destruction of the Wairoa freezing works by fire Wairoa's export of fat stock is being sent to Gisborne for slaughter and freezing. As the result of the blocking of the road to the south Gisborne is the only outlet /or Wairoa at present and already from 3000 to 4000 sheep and lambs have been dealt with at the Kaiti works. Lambs have been conveyed by lorry to Gisborne, while sheep have been moved on foot. For some time since the freezing merger the Kaiti works have been operating at full pressure, but the rush of stock from the Gisborne district is now fairly well over, so that no difficulty is experienced in coping with all Wairoa stock offering. The season at Wairoa is slightly later than at Gisborne and it is estimated that more than half of Wairoa s fat stock for export for the season has yet to come to hand.
