OTAHUHU COUNCIL.
The Otahuhu Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. H. T. Clements, presiding. Tamaki Bridge—Advice was received from the Manukau County Council that nine tenders for the construction iof the bridge had been received, varying from £7165 to £4897. Bray and Co.'s tender, the lowest, had been submitted to the Main Highways Board for approval. Unemployed—The . foreman reported that 116 men had been engaged during the week, and that the registrations now numbered 189. . All would be employed next week. Various schemes were considered by the council, and work will be available for some time. The Auckland Hospital Board requested the council to furnish the names, addresses and registration numbers of men employed, in order to enable its relieving officers to check statements' made by applicants or their wives. 5 It was resolved to inform the board that all labour under the unemployment scheme was voluntary, and they could not undertake the work involved, but that any information required could be had over the telephone.
