SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

An afternoon tea was given in the Tudor tea rooms in honour of Mrs. William Collie, who is visiting Auckland. Those present' included Mre. W. Todd, Mrs. A. Gilbert; Mrs. L. Barry, Mis« P. Lugton and Miss N. Browne. •» • • • Patients of ward 20 at the hospital were entertained at a very enjoyable concert arranged by Mrs. Racburn and Mr. A. HaiUblyn last evening. Those taking part were Mrs. C. Fitzpatrick, Mrs. Cdle, Mrs. J. McCarthy, Miss Edna and Gloria L6rigan, Mr. G. Laird, Mr. J. McCarthy, Mr. ,;;C. Fitzpatrick and Mr. Robertshaw. ### ' • v The Castor Bay Progressive Association have organised a garden party. in aid of the earthquake relief fuhd.. The function will be held in Hockihs' Grounds to-morrow, and will be opened by Mr. A. Harris, M.P. for Waitemata. It was originally intended to hold the garden party in aid of the Pluiiket Society, for which the association have done excellent work, HoWever, in view of the urgent need of sufferers, plans were altered. ♦ * * * The Auckland Cornish Association held a very enjoyable social, in the Orient tea rooms, Newmarket, on Tuesday last. The president, Mr. J. F. Tiddy, was in the chair. The guests of the evening Were Mr, and Mrs. W. Hughes and Master W.K.Hughes, Mr. and Mrs. Jame6, and Mr. and Mrs. Chalmers and Son, who are leaving for Cornwall in a few days. They were farewelled in Cornish dialect by Mrs. F. Pooley an'! Mrs. Norton. Items were given by Miss J. Williams, Messrs. Parsons, Garrett. Rover and Cloke. The president asked the members to stand, in silence_ as u mark of respect for those killed in th« disaster at Napier. A very enjoyable evening was brought to a Close by an address by Mr. Tiddy to speed the departing guests, who were accorded musical honours, suitable replies being made i.by, Mr. Hughes, Mr. Chalmers and Mr. James.
