LOCAL BODIES.
OTAHUHU COUNCIL. The Oitahuhu Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. H. T. Clements, presiding. Tamaki Leaguei—The works committee reported that the Tamaki League was satisfied that full value had been obtained for the money expended on Tamaki Avenue. Demolition Orders—On the recommendation of the works committee, Mies Arthur was given three months in whicli to demolish a building oh a Chinese garden. An application is to be made, to the Court for the demolition of N. Ramjee's premises in Princes Street. W. I>. Bush's property in Church Street is also to be demolished. Hedge Obstructions.—The inspector has been instructed to make a comprehensive report on all hedges over 4ft 6in in height which obstruct the view at street corners... Water Charges.—On the recommendation of the legal and finance committee the water charges for the Westfield Freezing Company, Ltd., and the Challenge Phosphate Co., Ltd., were reduced to 1/3 per 1000 gallons. Past Mayors.—A resolution was passed that steps be taken to /secure photographs of past' Mayors for hanging in the Borough Chambers. Unen ployment Relief.—The Mayor reported that,' accompanied by Mr. Deas, secretary of the local Unemployment .Committee, he had interviewed the Labour ..Department on Scheme No. 5, and was pleased to say the local committee would, operate under this scheme. Registrations should be made immediately. A new register was opened on Thursday morning, and in ( a few hours 68 names .wei'e listed. The council agreed to cooperate in every way, and formed themselves into, a committee to find work for every man on the list and to provide for supervision. Work will commence on Monday next.
