Beautiful weather prevailed for training at Ellerslie this morning, and there was a fair amount of fast work, the bulk of which was done, on the No. 1 grass track, the poles being Bft out from the rails. There was nl3o a couple of gallops on the course proper, on which the poles 25ft out from the inside rail. The going was excellent. t

The Course Proper. Manawhenua and Speedjast were the first to work on this track, being sent half a mile. Speedi'ast got away in front of his companion, and stayed there till the finish, running the distance ,n 5 •&, last three furlongs taking 38 l-ss. I his AVOiS H uoocl eft or t. . Brown Marble, a two-year-old in 1\ Gilchrist's stable, wag timed to run halt a mile in 52 4-ss. Justify sprinted four furlongs, running the last three in 38 l;ss, Neil and Tambourine did strong y/ork over six furlongs, which they covered in 1.20 4-5. , Sneer, a maiden in H. Biy.arro was in front of Billy Boy at the conclusion of seven furlongs in 1.36. Leasehold and Karangapai ran five furlongs in 1.4 3-!5. They began slowly, and covered the last three furlongs in 38 3-sg, Leasehold, who was on the outside, being a shade in front at the finish. Bennie, who had an advantage in the weights, was going better than Red Lion at the conclusion of six furlongs, which was traversed in 1.19 1-5.

One of the fastest seen at JDllerslie for some considerable time was accomplished by the Yalkyrian filly in N. Cunningham's stable, who ran throe furlongs in 36 3-,ls, This; filly, who is only of pony standard, did her work impressively as she carried over 9.0, and has had little galloping experience.

Escnlus was lint doing his best to run six furlongs in 1,22 '2-5. ( Over a similar distance Good Boy took 1.2*2, after running the finst throe in 41 2-ss. The three-year-old gelding Hampton Park has been leased to a patron of ]<\ Gilchrist's stable. This trainer has had Hampton Park throughout his racing career. He also has. Merry Lu under his charge. The Australian-bred two-year-old Royal Gallant, formerly trained at Ellerslie by G. Holland, has been transferred to W. Ryan's stable.
