MUTTON FIGURES FALL

LOWEST FOR 25 YEARS

CIIRISTCHURCH, Wednesday,

There were very heavy entries in all the principal sections of the Addington market to-day and there were sharp declines on late rates in practically all the major departments. Mutton values were the lowest for over 25 years.

Store Sheep.—An entry of about 3500 head. The sale was dull and values easier. Two-tooth halfbred wethers made 5/5 to 8/10; 'best two-tooth halfbred ewes, to 13/2; best four, six and eight-booth crossbred ewes, to 11/; backward and aged ewes, 3/ to 7/6; best mixed sex rape lambs,' to 8/0; medium mixed sex rape lambs, 5/3 to 7/3; others, to 4/. Fat Lambs. —An entry of 4100, compared with 950 at the last safe. It was easily the largest yarding of the season. Values were easier iby 3J to 3/6 a head, and the average price per lb was oVsd to 5%d. Extra prime lambs made to 21/10; prime, 17/ to 19/6; medium, 15/ to 16/6; light, 12/ to 14/6. Fat Sheep;—An entry of 6000 head, being the largest entry for some months. It was a very dull sale and there was a general sharp decline in values for 'both classes. In the ease of ewes it amounted to from 5/ to 7/ a head, and for wethers, 3/ to 4/ a head. The values were the_ lowest on record at Addington for over 25 years. Extra prime wethers made to 20/7; prime heavy wethers, 18/ to 19/6; medium prime wethers, 15/ to 17/6; second quality wethers, I<V to 14/6; light wethers, to 9/; extra prime ewes, to 17/1; prime ewes, 10/6 to 13/6; medium ewes, S/ 10/; light ewes, 5/6 to 7/6; aged and inferior ewes, 3/ to 5/. Fat Cattle. —An entry or 400 head, more than sufficient to meet the butchers' requirements. The basis of values was lower than at the last sales, and there was an easing for all classes from £1 10/ to £2 a head. Best medium weight beef made from 33/ to 38/ per 1001b. Heavy beef made from 29/ to 32/; cow beef, from 25/ to 30/; secondary beef, from 21/ to 24/; and rough down to 18/. Values were:—Extra prime heavy steers, to £19 7/6; prime heavy steers, £13 10/ to £14 5/8; prime medium-weight steers, £9 15/ to £13; medium quality steers, £7 to £9 10/; light steers, to £6 15/; extra prime heifers, to £14 2/6; prime heifers, £9 to -£11; medium heifers, £6 to £8 10/; light heifers, £4 to £5 10/; extra prime cows, to £12 10/; prime cows, £8 10/ to £10 10/; medium cows, £5 5/ to £7 15/; light and aged cows, £3 to £6. Fat Pigs.—A medium entry of baconers. Choppers made £3 16/ to £5 18/6; porkers, 24/ to 44/; heavy porkers, jS/ to 51/6; average price per lb, 6d to <d; baconers, 55/ to 65/; heavy baconers, 70/ to 80/; average price per lb, 5d to 6d. Store Pigs—A small entry with weaners in shorter supply than usual. Large stores ■made to 36/; medium, 29/6 to 32/6; slips, 24/ to 29/; weaners, .24/ to 28/. HASTINGS QUOTATIONS^ COW BEEF EASIER. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HASTINGS, Wednesday. The Stortford Lodge live stock sale was held to-day, with a fair attendance of the public. There was a large yarding of fat cattle and fat sheep, and also of stores and prime ox. Values were firm, up to £12 6/, but cow beef was easier at 20/ per 1001b. No store cattle were penned. Fat ewes fetched up to 12/, and unfinished sheep 7/ to 8/. There was a large yarding of store sheep, owing to the exceedingly dry weather. There was a poor demand for very forward wethers at 12/. There were large yardings of store lambs, ex station. Lines of Romney fetched up to 7/6, two-tooth ewes to 12/, and rape lambs to 9/. JOHNSONVILLE SALE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. All classes of stock were yarded at the Johnsonville stock sale to-day, and there was a good attendance of buyers. Heavyweight bullocks were much in> evidence, though there were a'few pens of lighter animals. No cows or heifers came forward. Competition was good and prices firmer than last week. There was a large yarding of sheep, of good quality wethers and ewes. A few pens of extra prime sheep attracted attention. Lambs, showed a fall of 2/ a head. Quotations were:— Extra heavy bullocks made £13 12/6 to £14 3/6; heavy 'bullocks, £12 5/ to £13; bullocks, £11 to £11 15/; vealers, £1 14/ to £2 5/; heavy wethers, 17/ to 17/9; wethers, 16/ to 16/3; extra heavy ewes, 10/9 to 11/; heavy ewes, 9/1 to 10/rewes, 8/ to 8/6; lambs, heavy, 13/ d to 14/10; lambs, 12/ to 12/10; lambs, light, 10/5 to 10/9.
