RIVER ACTIVITIES.
STRANGE HAPPENINGS IN WANGANUI. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, this day. People using the WangaYiui River during the past few days have noticed unusual activity above Upokongaro, where a large number of bubbles, presumably due to gas, have been rising. Thousands of dead "bullies" have also been seen in the lower reaches. Whether the latter is due to some poisonous matter has not been ascertained.
