LORD RUTHERFORD

(From Our Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. Pleasure and pride at the honour conferred on her husband was expressed to-day by Lady Rutherford. She said that , the first indication she had of it was when her mother drew attention to the announcement ib the newspaper. Soon afterwards, however, she received a cablegram from her husband stating that he intended to retain his own name as a title. The cablegram was sent from Wales, where Lord Rutherford is- at present on holiday. Lady Rutherford has been the recipient of a host of congratulatory telegrams, the first of which was from • the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, who is a very old friend of Lord Rutherford. "Honour, means nothing to my husband, and his work everything," said Lady Rutherford. "I am all the more glad at the honour bestowed on him, because I find that his own ' people - appreciate this quality in him." Lady Rutherford will remain in Christ-church until the end of February. She will then sail via Panama for Eug- ' la'nd, meeting her husband in Cambridge, where they,will take up thenresidence again in .their home, Newnham Cottage. Lord and Lady Rutherford have no sons, and their only daughter, Mrs. Eileen Fowler, of Cambridge, died only a week ago. She Jeayes a family of two sons and two daughters: There will be many who will be glad to think that the news has come at this time to lighten a period of sorrow..
