BEATEN ON MERITS.

That Harold Logan should have won the Auckland Trotting Cup, a'nd was unlucky in the Champion Handicap is admitted, but no excnse can be offered for his defeat in the President's Handicap on the final day of .the meeting. He began well, met with Uo interference at any stage, and actually. hit the front to be in the lead a quarter qf a mile from home. He then looked the best of good things, but instead of cominu home with the dash expected of him he wearied of the struggle, to finish up in fourth place. ~ Harold Logan was made a lot of use of in the first mile, and perhaps it was not surprising that he should not show speed at the finish. It takes a good horse to go at both ends of a race.
