CANTERBURY PARK.
SUMMER MEETING, JANUARY 1 AND 2. FIRST -DAY'S PROGRAMME. FIELDS FOR TO-MORROW REVIEWED. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The Canterbury Park Trotting Club's summer meeting will be commenced at Addington on New Year's Day, and concluded on Friday. It is a very popular fixture, which caters for good horses, and the sport should he up to the best standard. Introductory Handicap. Mickey Audubon showed speed at Ashburton, and the shorter journey will suit him. Scuttle and Great Nelson may be his most dangerous opponents. Templeton Handicap. Real Guy may be the best on the limit. Festival is smart over tins journey. Happy Land was unlucky at the start in his Ashburton race, while Denver City on the same mark should co well. The back-markers, Nor'-wester and Tenedos, do not appeal in this big field. Happy Land, Festival and Denver City are a 'likely trio. Canterbury Handicap. It looks as though the chief harness event will produce a line contest. Grand Light has been racing consistently without any luck. . Vesuvius can hardly be ready for such a hard contest, and although Vendome raced well in November she gave a poor display at Ashburton. Great Logan finished second to Erin's Fortune at Forbury Park, giving the winner 12yds, and he looks as tliough he would beat the ex-Southern pacer. Lindbergh won the Ashburton Cup like a good two-miler, and should beat Tom Thumb off 12yds. Harold Thorpe went a good race in the New Zealand Cup, and he should account for Travis Axworthy and Logan Chief from 24yds. Kingcraft raced very badly at the Cup meeting, but he may put up a good raco from the back mark. Lindbergh, Harold Thorpe and Great Logan look like lighting out the finish. Lyttelton Handicap. Kelp was unlucky at Forbury Park, while at Ashburton lie finished fast in third place. Over a mile and a half the longer journey should suit him. Curfew Boy has been racing very consistently. Great Author won twice at Westport, and is an improver. Kelp, Curfew Boy and Great Author should run well. Stewards' Handicap! Trampcrisp showed good form at Addington, and he is a fine stayer, while Midland also is very well. Olive Nelson, however, on her racent racing at Westport should be favourite, while White Satin should also race well. Stanley T. is now on a mark where he cannot afford to make a bad beginning. Olive Nelson, Trampcrisp and White Satin will be weft supported. Islington Handicap. Wakataua and Eugene de Oro are a likely pair on the limit, but Granite City is so consistent that he cannot be ignored. Morning Sun, Royal Comrade and Delightful are all very well, and the last-named appeals strongly over his favourite distance. He may go well, with Wakataua and Granite City giving most trouble. Railway Handicap. Danny Boy failed at Ashburton, but the form was too bad to be true. Awaiti won so easily at Ashburton that he must be dangerous. Nor'-wester only needs to race up to his form at New Brighton, where ho won a double, to be in the money. Vecto is smart in saddle, and is in form. Nor'-wester, a smart beginner, appeals most, with Awaiti and Danny Boy next. Au Revoir Handicap. Hostess has been racing very consistently, and she is about due. She beat Editor at Ashburton and may do it again, but the latter should run well. John Jinks would appeal strongly if he left the mark. Sahib is at his best at present. Hostess may find Sahib and Editor hardest to beat.
