THE SUMMER HANDICAP.
The whispering breeze said that Free Advice or Sir Author would win the Summer Handicap, and whisper was correct, Sir Author beating Free Advice by a small margin after a very fine finish. Sir Author and Gold Dial were together in the lead for well over a mile., and when Gold Dial gave in Sir Author went on in- front and remained there to the end. Genuine went a good race to get third, but he got a very lucky run on the rails coming to the home turn. Earlier he had been well boxed in on the fence and his chance of getting clear did not look promising. Warplane made a ,good showing till he broke under proeeure 100 yards from the post. Stanmoor appeared sore and did not pace with his usual dash, while his stable companion, Rockburn, was never pacing right, and was always hopelessly tailed off. Neither Florent nor Reremai threatened to take a hand in the finish, and The Abbey seems to be past hoping for. Great Delight went another bad race, and Pageant finished fourth without eve* i looking to get in the money.
