WORK AT ELLERSLIE. GAY COURT GOES PAST. RIDING ENGAGEMENTS. The No. 1 grass track and tan tracke were open at Ellerslie this morning and were in first-class order. There was not a great deal of fast work, most of the horses doing easy pacing on the* tan. No. i Grass. Cylinder and Spearmiss jumped ofl 7 at the seven-furlong post and were joined at the five by Star Stranger. They ran the seven in 1.28 4-5, the last six taking 1.15 3-5. . Cylinder, on the outside, went well. Te Money and Speedfast wore together at the end of half a mile run fn 50 3-ss. Lady Quex strode over five* furlongs in 1.4 4-5. This mare looks very well. Steady Fire, going with plenty of dash, completed six furlongs in 1.16 4-5. My Own cantered round to the threefurlong post and sprinted home •in W 4-'ss. .

Gay Court finished well, in front of La Poupee and Chief Cook after traversing three furlongs in 36 4-5s —a good effort.

Bayacre and Movie Star both pleased while running five furlongs in 1.4 3-5. They could have done much better.

Simba was timed to run the last five furlongs of his work in 1.3 3-5. Hunt the Slipper went with him over the last half mile which took 50 2-ss. Teiiakoe was "let off with an easy task, covering six furlongs in 1.13. . On the Tan. Silvevmine and Prince Val worked separately, each taking about 1.20 for six furlongs. Goshawk did strong work over a round, completing his task in 1.54 2-5, the last six furlongs taking 1.24 1-5. Valroe went particularly well over six furlongs, running the distance in. 1.20.
