THIEF AT WORK.
TWO HOUSES VISITED
SUMS OF MONEY STOLEN.
Seen in the bedroom of an accommodation house at Cheltenham about 4 o'clock yesterday morning, an intruder was chased, but escaped. Later it was found that £1 17/ had been stolen from the room of a guest.
Mr. George Sinclair, the proprietor of the bouse, was awakened just before 4 o'clock, and ho saw a man standing at the foot of bis bed. He thought it was his son, and called out io him. The man made a dash for the door, with Mr. Sinclair after bim. Along the passage tliey raced, and after the intruder bad passed through the front door he closed it behind him. The way was temporarily barred to Mr. Sinclair, and the intruder jumped over'a wall into Cheltenham Road and got away. .
Money totalling £16 was also stolen from a room in a private hotel in Devonport during the week-end. No sound was heard during the night, but a guesfc round on rising that the money had been stolen from a wallet which was in his inside pocket. The room from which the money was taken was on the lower floor, and could have been easily reached from, a verandah.
It "was also reported to the police yesterday that over £6 had been stolen from a house in Albany Road, Heme Bay. The people of the house were away all day, and when they canio home they: reported that the rent money had beea stolen.
