•When'fire caused extensive damage to a large. tworstoreyed wooden boarding- , house in Main Street yesterday afternoon, practically nothing was saved, and the effects: belonging to. ten boarders were- lost. ■ .' ' . One of the. occupants, Mrs. W. Bridges, had a narrow escape. When the alarm was given she made for a room upstairs in order to recover valuable papers belonging to her husband, but before she could escape the flames cut off her retreat. She battled through blinding smoke to a window, where she fainted. Mrs. Bridges was seen by employees of an adjacent plumber, who rescued her. She is now little the worse for the experience. -
The contents of the building were insured for £250 and the building for £1255. ■•'
