MR. FORBES IN BRITAIN.

NEW ZEALAND PERSONIFIED.

FAVOURABLE IMPRESSION

MADE.

STAUNCT TO THE MOTHERLAND.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

WELLINGTON, this day.

"New' Zealand has lost nothing by.the visit, of the Prime Minister, the Right Hon. G. W. Forbes, to this country," writes Mr. Len McKenzie, a former Wellington city councillor,' to a, friend from England. "If possible he ' has further endeared New Zealand to the hearts of the sympathetic people of England. Besides his work at the Imperial Conference, in which he played no small part, his progress ha!, been marked by tact, and his watchword has been that New Zealand thinks the Empire good enough and has nothing in. common with the -' •. of a Commonwealth of Nations, which seem- to be a higher sounding title, but is apt to lead the minds of people slightly away from the Motherland. "In the course of his remarks Mr. Forbes has emphasised the point that secession is quite an unknown quantity in the Dominion, and that the, word is never used even in the inost impolite society and the New Zealanders' only thought is how they can strengthen the bonds of Empire.

"'AH through Mr. Forbes has worked hard in the interest of the N<-w Zealand producer. He has called attention to the uncalled for difference in price between New Zealand and Danish butter, and with butter.experts has visited packing stations and has gained an intimate idea of methode employed to bring New Zealand butter before the public. The best work he has done in that regard since he has ljpen here was in .«n interview with the butter lungs,' at which meeting he heard their side of the question first and then made his reply, and ilio impression nade was so favourable that it can. bo safely said that lie reyaitied much of their good y ill."
