4fter the rain on Monday Bight the tracks were soft yesterday morning. Ihe course proper, with the flags wide out, was available, and, although the times recorded were on the slow side, the horses relished the going and hit out freely in their work. . . Coon Song (K. Voitre), nominated for the second and third days at Awapum, went well over five furlongs, covering the distance alone in just under 1.8. Myola (K. Voitre) and Thrasher (Faulkiner) were sprinted home irom the haltmile peg in 545, Thrasher being m front at the post. It was a very pleasing effort. Braggart (R. Miles) and Acredity (A. B Stratton) went once round over the hurdles, both jumping cleanly. Braggart, if anything, giving the better exhibition. Sailing (P. Shirkey) was in front of a Rangitira gelding (Chapman) at the end of three furlongs, which took 425. Broughton) were galloped six furlongs.. Getting away well together, Chief Cook acted as pacemaker for the first half-mile, where the others closed up. In the run to the post Teller finished well and was in front at the finish, the distance being cut out in failtime, the last five furlongs taking them 1.9 2-5. Lady Mid (E. Stammers) was sent once round over the schooling fences. She maintained a good pace throughout and lost no time at the hurdles. She is nominated for the Tokomaru Hurdles at Awapuni on Boxing Day, and should go well, Decree Nisi (C. France), Valueless (VinCviit) and Valorous Knight (Pagan) were associated in a gallop over six furlongs. The trio begun slowly, but the pace was on from the five-furlong peg. There Avas little between them at the entrance to the straight, but Valorous Knight .finished strongly and was clear of Valueless at the post, Decree Nisi fading out of the picture over the final bit. The last five furlongs took them 1.9. La Parleuse (Dick) and Thermopylae (Shirkey) were sprinted home from the turn, taking 26s for the last two furlongs. Caliphont (Chisholm) was sent away in front of White Squall (Dick) at the fivefurlong post, but was beaten home, the last half-mile being run in 54 2-ss. Courageous (Dick), who is being taken to Auckland with White Squall next Monday, had Kilorell (Shirkey) as a companion over a mile the reverse way, and was in front after covering the journey in 1.52.
