The Government inotar ship Maui Pomare is expected at Dunedin from Niue Island on Thursday and she will then resume her running in the Island trade. Following an extensive overhaul to her engines, the vessel left Wellington oh a trial trip on November 11, and she , has, since, visited Nine' and then Samoa, returning to Niue, : where an uh-' successful endeavour was made to'load a shipment of bananas in it strong gale, I Recording to her schedule, the Maui Pomare will ' make Auckland the' last port of call in New , Zealand, and she ■will'leave from there on" eaJi/trip for Niue Island and Apia, returning "via Lyttelton' and Wellington to Auckland. 'On every second trip she will make Bunedin her first poft of call. ; Reports concerning* the trial trip indicate that the engines have been running well and that no trouble has been experienced. The Maui Pomare' has a cargo of 7400 cases of bananas from Samoa, but it proved impossible: to load at Niue .owing to' a westerly gale which made the roadstead unworkable. As a result a ' large quantity of bananas had to 'be left on the , island and. the native growers will suffer a complete loss on . them. The Maui Pomare had to seek shelter on the eastern 'side of the island, and during an attempt to pick up passengers two'native surf teats were lest.
