MOUNT ALBERT COUNCIL.
The Mount Albert Borough Council met last*, night, the Mayor, Mr. E. H. Rhodes, 'presiding. Unemployment Subsidy.—The Mayor said he had applied to the Unemployment Board for on £125 taken from the revenue account. The total amount of £375 would be available if the subsidies were granted, and would be used on special work at Owairaka Park. Street Names. —It was decided to write to the City Council agreeing to change the name of one end of Commercial Road if the c-ouncil would agree to change the ■name of one end of King Street. A complaint was received from the Post and Telegraph Department that confusion existed through duplication in numbering houses in King Street and Commercial Road, which run- from New North Road to G-reat North Road. Half of each street is in Auckland, and is under control of the City Council, and the other halves are in Kingsland and Mount Albert borough. Gribblehurst Park.—The Aroha Progressive League advised that it had £70 available for expenditure on equipment for the children's playing area in Gribblehuret Park. It asked for permission to co-operate at the official opening dn February by erecting stalls, the money collected to ibe devoted to further improvement oE the playing areas. Permission was granted. Building.—Building permits to the value •of £2371 were issued during the last three weeks. "Owairaka."—lt was decided to ask the Transport Board's consent to the alteration of the name of Saudringham Terminus to' Owairaka, which is the traditional Maori name for Mount Albert. The Mayor said he would personally also like to see Vincent Road changed to Owairaka Road if the residents did not object. There were other Vincent Roads in Auckland and Owairaka Road would be more distinctive.
