ST. HELIER'S CLUB. ! The report and balance-sheet presented at the annual meeting of the St. Helier's Lawn Tenuis Club stated the past season had been a social and financial success. The membership was over 00, but the teams had not been very successful in their interclub matches. 1 The election of officers resulted as follows :—Patron, Mr. W. P. Endean, M.P.; president, Mr. O. Horspool; vice-presidents, Messrs. H. Cooper, Kretsclimar, Hintz, Warden ; secretary, Mr. McGinley; treasurer, Mr. Kretsclimar; committee, Mesdames Butler, Habbett, Needham, Misses N. Bradshaw, St. Clair Inglis, Messrs. J. Diamond, Habbett, Phillip, W. Hadnell, F. Hume; match committee, Misses H. Bradshaw, E. Russell, Messrs. Horspool, Habbett,-Phillip; club captain, Mr. H. Cooper. It was decided to enter teams for the C and D grades this season. Opening day was fixed for October 25. BAYFIELD OLD SCHOLARS' CLUB. The Bayfield Old Scholars' Lawn Tennis Club officially opened its season on Saturday. Mr. J. G. Hamilton, the club captain, welcomed the new members and guests, among whom he was glad to see Mr. R. B. Hardy, the A.L.T.A. president. Mr. Hardy spoke a few words, stressing the need for more Interest by the hard-court clubs in the association's affairs. He stated that many country clubs required delegates on the association and suggested that some members of city hard-court clubs should accept such positions. He also mentioned that if exhibition matches appealed to clubs, the association's committee would be glad to arrange for them. , ~ In the absence of the club president, Mr. D Mclnnes, the formal opening declaration was made by the vice-president, Sir. R. A. Rew, who congratulated the club on its maintenance of the courts. Messrs Coyle, Williams, Sparks and Turel, of Unity Club, Schade, of HallyburtonJohnstone, and Miss E. Kitchener, of Y.M.C.A., were among the representatives . of other club 3 present, and Mr. Coyle, on ' behalf of the visitors, wished the club a successful season. The first ball of the season was served by Mrs. E. M. Lucena. ONEWA CLUB. The Onewa Tennis Club at Northcote has decided upon renovations to the grounds. Officers for the current season are as follows: —President, Rev. F. A. Thompson; secretary, Mr. W. Brooker; treasurer, Mr. G. Davidson ; committee, Misses M. Stewart, G. Broady, Messrs. H. Turner and H. Mac-j Kinnon. ONEWHERO CLUB. The Onewhero Tennis Club formally opened the season on Its courts on Satur- , day nfternoon. The president, Mr. R. J. i Glasgow, declared the courts open, after which the season's play started. CAMBRIDGE CLUBS. CAMBRIDGE, Saturday. The summer season's pastimes, including tennis, were ushered in once again in this district to-day. After a few slight showers In the morning the weather was fine this afternoon, although there was a slight westerly wind blowing. The Cambridge and Trinity Presbyterian Clubs held their official openings, there being good attendances at both clubs' courts. Several other courts about the district were in full use to-day, though some of the rural clubs will hold their official openings next Saturday and the following week. The Cambridge Club's courts were officially declared open by the Mayor, Mr. C. H. Priestley, who referred to the great pro- ' gress and increasing interest being shown ! locally in the sport.
