RIFLE SHOOTING.
AKARANA CLUB. The Akarana Rifle Club commenced Its championship series at Penrose rifle range over the ranges wf 200 and 300 yards. There was a fair attendance of members, and shooting throughout the afternoon was of interest. D. Calder led' A section home with a, fine shoot of 02. Silver spoons were won by D. Calder and T. Bevan. ; Trophy points were awarded as follows: D. Calder 3, G. R. Draffln 2, G. G. Ashley 1, R. Wakefield 3, T. Bevan 2, K. Davies 1. Details of the scooting are as follows: A Section (Mr. F. The Auckland City Defence Rifle Club opened the season's championship with a shoot at 200 and 300 yards on the Penrose range last Saturday afternoon. In spite of threatening weather the rain held off until the shooting was over, and shooting conditions were first-class. J. Pring and H. Simmonds were in great form, dropping only five points each in the 20 shots fired, while A. C. Watson was only two points behind them. On adjusted handicap, P. J. Pring and A. Sommerville won a spoon each, five points only separating the first and eighth men. Results off the rifle were :— P. J. Pring, 47 at 200 yards and 48 at 300 yards, total 95; H. Simmonds, 48, 47 — 95; A. C. Watson, 48. 45—93: C. J. M. Clark, 48, 43—91: R. McLeay, 44, 46—90; A. Sommerville, 44, 46—90: .T. A. Spry, 40, 45—85; H. W. Cozens. 45, 37 —82; W. H. Thompson, 36, 44—80; I. Spry, 40, 39—79; S. C. Wells. 43. 35—78: A. «. Robertson, 32, 45—77; D. W. .Tones, 30, 40—73; J. Reimers, 30.37—67; P. Hayes, 27.34—61; J. L. King, 24, 24-48. The ranges for Saturday are 500 and yards.
