SOCIETY OF ARTS.
SUCCESSFUL YEAR RECORDED. The annual meeting of the Auckland society of Arts was held last night. "TVe have, had a successful year and are aible to record a satisfactorv financial year," said the president, Dr. E. B. Guns on. The society, remarked the president, had not achieved all they hoped for in the matter of accommodation, but they had done something. The present room was admirable for '"'one-man*'' ghows, which, in his opinion, ought to be encouraged. A meeting of delegates from all art societies in Xew Zealand would he held in Wellington on October 3. One important matter to consider was the formation of a central controlling body to further Dominion art interests. Delegates would also discuss the exhibition of Medici prints. Ther eport and balance-sheet, details of which have been published, were adopted. Reference was made to the deaths of Mr. A. S. Boyd, a former president of the society, and Messrs. A. Hanna and Wesley Spragg, life members, the meeting standing in silence as a mark of respect. The following officers were elected: President, Dr. E. B. Gunson; vicepresidents, Messrs. J. F. Ewen, E. C. Huie, W. Cecil Leys, 0. Xicholson, E. W. Paton and H. E. Vaile; council, Miss I. G. Eise and Messrs. G. E. Jones, R. O. Gross and J. Weeks. Miss Eise and Mr. Weeks are new members. Mr. Weeks is a well-known Canterbury artist who has recently spent two years in Morocco. The high standard of his work has attracted much attention. The non-retiring officers were: Miss Copeland and Messrs. D. J. Paine, R. A. Abbot? and E. S. Kohn.
