Already dozens of public functions have been arranged in honour of the delegates to the Imperial Conference, beginning with a State dinner at Lancaster House on September 29. The King and Queen have fixed the Empire banquet to the Dominion Prime Ministers -at Buckingham Palace for October 3.

London Corporation will present the Freedom of the .City to the Dominion Prime Ministers, Messrs. G. W. Forbes, New Zealand, J. H. Scullin, Australia, and R. B.' Bennett, Canada.

The "Daily Herald" states that at the four, hours' sitting of the Cabinet yesterday most of the. time was devoted to business connected with the ' Imperial Conference. The Government, it says, is confronted with some awkward constitutional questions affecting . the equality of. status between' the Dominions and Britain. Judicial as well as constitutional difficulties have to be faced.

Canada's Cards on the Table. The Canadian Minister of Trade and Commerce, Mr. H. 11. Stevens, speaking in the House of Commons at Ottawa, declared that the members of the'; Administration were going to the Imperial Conference with their cards on the tabic, so that the Governments of New Zear land, Australia and South Africa and that of the Mother Land, would know exactly where Canada's representatives stood. The delegation would make every effort to include in any arrangements made articles beneficial to those Empire countries, but not injurious to Canadian industry and agriculture, and with a corresponding arrangement in respect to Canadian goods. , ' ' ' ■ ■ Preparations are well advanced for the conference which begins September 30. The Dominioh delegations will begin to arrive within a (few days. They will be accommodated in various large hotels and a fleet of ears will- be placed* at their disposal during the conference.
