DEADLY RAT.
KILLED 112 CHICKENS.
MANG-ZxtE FASMSR'S LOSS. BIRDS STORED IN TUNNEL. I A rat killed 112 chickens on a Man\g"re poultry farm Jast Friday night. The pen contained 250 chickens, and next day., when the owner. Mr. G. Blandford, went to attend to;the brood, he diseovered nearly half of them gone. The rat liad bored a tunnel, some throe feet in length, and about the depth of a brick under the iloor of the shed. Except for a narrow strip the iloor was in concrete, and up through this narrow strip the rat made its way. Even then to get at the chicks it had to climb over a 12 iudi board which had been placed round the brooder. f The concrete flooring was opened up j and beneath it, in the tunnel which the rat had made, the 112 dead chickens Av?re found stored. A rafs nest with thirteen young ones was also found. Mr. Blandford estimated his lo«s at £10.
