ACCIDENT RISKS.
TRAMWAY CENTRE POLES.
ALL TO BE REMOVED.
DELAY CAUSED BY FINANCE,
'It is the Transport Board's definite decision to remove all centre poles. The delay has been merely owing to linancial considerations. We may consider what we will do in Queen Street'at a nearly elate," said the chairman of tho board, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, at this morning's meeting, when a letter was read from the City Central Progress League offering the board its co-operation. "The league," said the latter, "is of opinion that the removal of centre poles from Queen Street would not only reduce the risk of accident, but would to a large extent relieve the congestion that occurs, especially at peak load periods." The league requested the board to regard the question as one of urgency and state when the work would be put in hand. The league would be pleased to co-operate with the board in obtaining permission from property owners to have overhead wires suspended from buildings. The letter concluded in- the following congratulatory terms: "The board's work in renewing the tracks in Queen Street and eliminating much of the noise is appreciated." The question was referred to the whole board in committee.
