WHANGAREI NOTES.
Mrs. A. R. Crane is visiting her daughter in Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Benjamin have returned from a visit to Auckland. Mrs. A. E. Collins, Auckland, and her two children, spent the school holidays as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Marsden 1 Woods, Nixo'n Street. Miss Barr has returned from .a"holiday spent in the South. Mrs. 'R. G. Hosking lias returned from a visit to Auckland. Mrsi Norman James and her daughter spent the school holidays in Auckland. 3\liss Gitlin spent the latter part of the school holidays at Waipu Cove.
, Mr. and Mrs., A. "Wilkinson, "The Moorings," Aubrey Street, held, a delightful party at their home last Thursday, in honour of their son Laurie's 21st birthday. About forty guests spent an enjoyable evening in games and dancing. During the evening ' Mr. Don Smedley proposed the toast of Mr. Laurie Wilkinson, and presented him with the key of the house. Among those present were: Mesdames Wilkinson, Perchard, Markwick and Misses Wilkinson, M. Smith, D. Palmer, Smith, K Crawford, M. G. .Smith, P. Going, G. Orr, T. Going, J. Wliiteman, ,T. Hodgson, G, Perchard, A. Markwick, L. Ramsey and Messrs. A. Wilkinson, L. Wilkinson, Horslcy, R. Wilkinson,' Smith, N. Wilkinson, T. Hollows, D. Jack, Ross, R. Reynolds, L. Moore, W. Reynolds and D. Smedley. The Waiata Society opened a four nights' season of the opera "Floradora" on September 10. Among the ladies present on the opening night were Mesdantes Brainshy, Higginson, A. MacKay, "McPliee, E. Archer, Everett, W. Hill, Murray, F. Anderson, H. Crane, Browne, j. ;G. Campbell, Fallon, A. R. Benjamini. Blanchard,' H. A. Good, H. Crawford, H. G. Smith, A. Dohso'n, S'. Weston, J. Dob-; son and Misses B. Murray, A. MacKay, B. Peacock, .'V. Turnhull, E. .Peacock, F. Campbell, M. Turnbull, Howie and Roose. . Mrs. Hanlon arranged a delightful birthday surprise party for. Mrs. Wilmott on Monday last, when three tables of bridge, players,- comprising near friends of the guest, indulged in play. Mrs. Woolley, sen., annexed the .prize for the highest score, whilst-the trophy for the hidden number fell to Mrs. Hanlon. A very enjoyable time was spent, and a dainty tea was dispensed during the afternoon.
