DIED UNEXPECTEDLY.

RESIDENT OF WHANGAREL

PRESBYTERIAN ELDER.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

WHANGAREL this day.

The death under tragic circumstances occurred at Hikurangi on Sunday evening of Mr. John McHroy. He had suffered heart trouble for some time, but attended the quarterly Presbyterian communion service. He was in his usual good spirits, and as an elder was allocated the usual duties as a bearer of the elements. At the close of the meeting he complained of feeling unwell, and instead of going to church he was taken home, and a few minutes after his arrival he breathed his last. When the announcement was made in church the congregation were visibly affected.
