SPRING TROTTING.

THE WAIKATO PROGRAMME

In this issue will be fouml full details of the programme offered owners by the Waikato Trotting Club for the spring meeting, to be held at Claudelauds on Saturday, October 11. The card is the usual one of eight events, and totting up the prize money it is found that the club has allocated 1450 sovs for distribution.

A perusal of the programme shows that horses able to pace from 2.22 to 2.24 are particularly well catered for, and there are no less than four races in , which they can be well placed. The Franklin Handicap is a 3.56 class mile and five furlongs, which works out at a 2.24 gait, the Claudelands Handicap is a 3.0 mile and a quarter, a 2.21 gait, the President's Handicap is a 4.50 two miles, 2.25 gait;~and the Visitor's Handicap is a 2.57 mile and a quarter, a 2.22 gait. This should suit the majority of owners, as practically every horse in training can go a mile in 2.24, but it may be found that the similarity in the rates of the events will affect the field in one or other of them. Auckland owners have been continually asking that more consideration be given to the novices, and the Waikato Club has met the request this time.

The chief event is the Mark Memorial of 400SOVS, a 4.38 two ,• miles,- and the winner's portion of the stake is 300sovs. The other events are: Introductory Trot of lOOsovs, limij; 4.10, one mile and five furlongs; Frankton Handicap of 135sovs, limit 3.5G, one, mile and five furlongs; Hamilton Trot of 200sovs, limit two; miles; Claudelands Handicap of. 130 sovs, limit 3.0, one mile and a quarter; Stewards' Handicap of 200sovs, limit 2.18, one mile; President's Handicap of 140sovs, limit 4.50, two miles; Visitors' Handicap of 14550v5,. limit 2.57, one mile and a quarter.

Nominations close with, , the secretary, Mr. T. G. Reynolds, Hamilton, or Messrs Blomfield and Co., Auckland, at 5 p.m on Tuesday, September.23.
