LOCAL BODIES.
NEW LYNN BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The New Lynn Borough Council met last evening. The Acting-Mayor, Mr. Geo. Lawson, presiding.
Relief of Unemployment.—The Public Works Department intimated full approval of the council's proposals for the relief of unemployment. The Government offered a subsidy on a basis of £2 for £1 of labour at 14/ per day, up to £145. It is estimated that the new works_ will cost £630 8/10, including £182 1/5 for labour. Over forty men in the district have made applications for work. Foreman's Report—The foreman reported on the reconditioning of the railway footpath between the overhead footbridge and Titirangi Road. He said steps had been constructed over the steep grades on both sides of the Rewarewa Creek. Repairs-to Wattle and Nikau Streets had been carried out. Great North Road.—An account for. £49 11/4 for maintenance of the Great North Road, under warrant March 26, 1919, was received from the - Auckland City Council. ' ■— Donations. —The council donated 1/ each to the Plunkct Society and the New Lynn Horticultural Society. Rating Act, Section 69. —-The council resolved to support the borough of Takapuna in its efforts to.secure remedial legislation relative to. section 69 of the Rating Act. Mr. H. G. R. Mason, M.P., said that he considered the only remedy would be to cancel the section. t
Council Delegate.—Mr. W. Piatt was appointed to ■ represent : the council at. a meeting of the Modernisation for Buildings Promotion Society • and - the- Auckland University College on town planning.
PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD

PAPAKURA, Monday
The Papakura Town Board met .this evening, the- chairman, Mr. Jas. McCall, presiding.
Petrol Tax Allocation.—ln reply to the board's letter re the allocation of the petrol tax, Mr. J: N. Massey, M.P., wrote stating that he had had a discussion with Mr. H. E. Holland, M.P., and understood that an amendment would be brought before the House dealing with the Highways Act. . He (Mr. Massey) would endeavour to see that town board areas and small boroughs received some compensation for the extra taxation imposed on them.
Tree Planting.—The board decided to send a protest against the planting of pine trees on the edge of the Wairoa Road drain.
GLEN EDEN TOWN BOARD,
Glen Eden Town Board met last evening, Mr. W. E. Martin presiding. Councillors present were: Messrs. A. J. Routley, W. H. Shepherd, W. F. Rosier, F. S. Lane and G. Ambler.
Recreation Ground. —The lea&e of a portion of the recreation ground for grazing purposes, subject to.public rights being preserved, was granted to Mr. Berry at a nominal rental.
License Fees. —The Anglican Church Hall trustees applied for a reduction -in annual license fees. The board agreed to a reduction to 10/ yearly.
Benevolent Society.—Messrs. W. H. Shepherd and A. J. Routley were appointed • delegates to a meeting of the Benevolent Society called for the purpose of distributing proceeds of a recent concert for charity purposes.
Finance.—Accounts totalling £207 4/10 were passed for payment. The income was £293, and the bank overdraft stands at £1230, which is approximately £100 less than at this period last year. Noxious Weeds. —A complaint was received from a resident in Liverpool. Road, that a section adjoining was covered in gorse, and detrimental to his property. The board decided to have the nuisance removed.
