At yesterday's meeting of the Auckland Electric Power Board motions of condolence were passed with the relatives of the late Mr. T. R. .'Pioctor and the late Mr. J. M. Crosher. Both had been prominently associated with the electrical undertaking of Auckland.
One effect of the Dunning Budget in Canada, which lowers the tariff on British goods, has been the immediate efforts of English iron and -teel manufacturers to capture the Canadian market. A huge order for steel to be used in the construction of the new Canadian National Railways' 7,000,000-dollar hotel in Vancouver, which it had been expected would be placed in Pittsburgh, U.S.A., has instead been awarded to English steelmakers.
