THEFT BY FRAUD AT GISBORNE.
PROTECTION FOR CLIENTS

GISBORNE, this day.
"I recognise that the severest part of the punishment will be that y°u willbe removed from the roll of solicitors, but that is not sufficient, and it is my duty to impose a term of imprisonment," said Mr. Justice Reed to-day wheiv Robert George Gardiner Bain, aged 26, barrister and solicitor, appeared be£ore him in the Supreme Court for sentence for theft by fraud..
His Honor remarked that the punishment must be such as -\voulcl act as a deterrent to others against interfering with their clients' 'money, and he ordered that Bain be detained for reformative purposes for twelve months. Bain pleaded guiltyin the lower Court to 20 charges- of fraudulently omitting to account for moneys received, thereby committing theft. The total amount of the defalcations was approximately £000.
